I have a disease. A disease that I am sure that many others may share. I have recently come to terms with this disease and accepted my fate. I was in denial, but no more. The bad thing about this disease is that it can affect the young and old, males as well as females, the poor and the wealthy (although the wealthy afflicted are likely to be in the more advanced stages). It is not so much a disease of the body, but a disease of the mind. It has in recent history become known (at least in my circle) as media-obtainitis.

The first sign that you have contracted this unfortunate disease is the steady growth of a particular media source in your home. It could be anything from movies to video games to comics, anything media-related. If you find your collection of media increasing at an exponential rate, you have probably become afflicted with media-obtainitis. The more advanced cases may see a steady increase in several different sources of media.

I admit that I am in the advanced stages of the disease. I showed symptoms slowly. Purchased just a few DVDs. Soon, my collection grew until the disease progressed into other areas. I began obtaining video games and collecting manga until I was surrounded by all things media. Then, a tragedy occurred. I was diagnosed with a secondary disease, technolgy-overloadus. With my particular strand of media-obtainitis, technolgy-overloadus usually always takes hold as well. Technolgy-overloadus has the infected individual intensely interested with new technology. The individual is up-to-date on what is new and what is cutting edge. Their house is filled with electronic gizmos, knick-knacks, and whats-its.

The big problem with having both diseases is that they feed off of one another. As one disease advances, the other progresses as well. Though, technolgy-overloadus usually progresses faster. With the onset of new technology, new media is bound to be acquired alongside.

My case of media-obtainitis is a very visible one. Just recently I had to acquire more shelving space for my most prominent symptom, DVD's (and Blu-Rays). Now, I love the new media wall. It looks awesome and is so so pretty. It holds all of my DVD's and CD's and there is still room for more. I also recognize the fact that I have a lot of media, but it is what I enjoy. I enjoy watching movies and TV shows on DVD's and Blu-Rays. I enjoy reading different manga series. I enjoy playing different types of video games. I enjoy going to Best Buy. I know it is probably in excess, but it keeps me entertained. :)

In current society, I have no doubt that most of the American population has been afflicted with some form of media-obtainitis or technolgy-overloadus, but what matters most is that people not become consumed by these afflictions. I don't want to go all after-school-special on you, but the most important thing in life is to enjoy many different experiences and to live life to the fullest. I enjoy technology and media a lot, but I have tried over the years to not let the media-obtainitis and the technolgy-overloadus take over my life.

Hi, my name is Courtney and I am addicted to technology and media.

Hi, Courtney.

Till next time.
